When the Weersings were looking for a new future for Pyramid Valley in 2016, Brian Sheth and Steve Smith MW welcomed the opportunity and responsibility. The purchase completed in 2017, and since that time Brian and Steve have put their own personality into the story, alongside their teams curating a new foundation — one that delivers on the promise of producing distinctive, genuinely cool-climate Chardonnay and Pinot Noir widely recognised among the finest in the world.

Our story breathed a new chapter in 2018, with the appointment of Huw Kinch as Winemaker and Estate Manager at Waikari, and Nick Paulin as National Viticulturist. That same year brought the purchase of the Lowburn Ferry vineyard in Central Otago –producing exceptional Pinot Noir since 2002, and today home to our Low Burn estate-grown Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Across both estates, biodynamic and organic viticulture and a natural approach to winemaking – indigenous yeasts, natural fining, minimal if any filtration – create wines that breathe of their place and taste like nowhere else on earth. This is the philosophy behind our Botanicals Collection: Waikari’s Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, now joined by Snake's Tongue Pinot Noir from Low Burn.

Beyond this, our Low Burn Pinot Noir and Low Burn Chardonnay sit within our Pastures Collection – alongside wines from a collection of exceptional growers across North Canterbury, Marlborough and Hawke's Bay, together making up the Pastures Collection Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.

And within Pyramid Valley's more vanguard spirit sits the Colours Collection – three wines, Sauvignon+, Orange and Rosé, that push at the edges of what these varieties can express.
