Selectively picked, for perfect fruit, knowing this wine would spend time on skins. Sorted again at the winery, then destemmed, and transferred to tank. Vineyard yeast fermentation on skins for one month, natural malolactic in tank, then transferred to barrel for 8 months, before being lightly pressed in our tiny basket press. Settled for another two months, then bottled; neither fined nor filtered.

Lucent, Apricot Rose hue.
Headily, and reassuringly, fragrant (skin-contact wines can sometimes suffer a loss of perfume, surrendering aromatic grace notes). Rose petal, and myriad spices: cassia bark, star anise, sweet paprika, cumin; also tamarind essence.
At once juicy and refreshing, and mildly, pleasantly astringent. Few wines but those “orange”, achieve this simultaneity of freshness, complexity, and phenolic clout. Flavours of Black Boy peach, spice again – especially cinnamon, nutmeg, clove – and dried apricot. Fruit for this wine came from the Hutchinson Vineyard in Rapaura, where coarse, stony soils help to foster a wine that preserves bouquet, as rigour develops.
